Wildlife and nature of Beautiful British Columbia........

In British Columbia are 2 species of bears. The black bear is the smallest one. A male black bear can have a weight up to 450 pounds and the female is considerable smaller, up to 200 pounds. The grizzly belongs to the family of brown bears and is much larger than the black bear. Male grizzly can have a weight of more than 800 pounds!! Bears are very good fishermen and they generally live solitary, but sometimes you  see a female with her cubs.

During a fishing trip to British Columbia it is quite normal to spot a couple of black bears. The grizzly  bear however, live more withdrawn and don't show up very often. Another beautiful animal is the bald eagle. This eagle is a very beautiful bird of prey and it is spectacular to see an eagle with a wingspan of over 2 meters fly in the air! This bird of prey has, like bears,  no natural enemies except humans. Male and female bald eagles stay a couple for their entire life

Other animals are deer, moose, otters and other gnawing animals like beavers, rabbits and weasels. In British Columbia also live timber wolves and the cougar (mountain lion), but those animals are very shy and there is unfortunately only a small chance to see one of them. For all animals, British Columbia is a true paradise. There is still plenty of food and space. But for how long?

The forest starts to change colours. Slowly the green disappears and orange and brown occurs. Leaves are falling. The rivers are fed by melting water of snow or glaciers. Sometimes by a lake. But they are always fast floating and filled with steelhead and salmon. Some have good access, others not. But there are still more than enough places for the fly fisherman to cast a fly in a very beautiful wilderness. Casting a fly for steelhead.
