| Most fishermen think that the salmon is the king of game fish. Unfortunately it is almost impossible for most anglers to fish for Atlantic salmon at affordable prices. Prices for a pool in a good river in Norway or Scotland can be sky-high and the catches are most of the times very limited while the real top rivers are only accessible for a small group of select fishermen. Those who can afford a short trip take a big risk. There are so many things that nobody can control and it happens often that afterwards one has another illusion for a lot of money. Of course there are some good rivers in Europe, but who likes to gamble? The rivers in British Columbia have 5 species of Pacific salmon and of course the famous wild steelhead! |

| Steelhead, the sea-run rainbow trout, is the king of the salmonids. Those who hooked a steelhead know that those spectacular and beautiful game fish will do everything to loosen themselves. Several runs upstream and downstream up to 50 meters are very regular and sometimes the steelhead will leap out of the water several times like an acrobat. The measurements of the wild steelhead in Northern British Columbia are between 70 and 100 centimetres and the weights are between 8 and 25 pound. Steelhead is a fish that can be hunted with a fly rod very well and has his habitat in the fast floating rivers in the western region of the United States of America and Canada. In these rivers you can also find several Pacific salmon species like the chinook, spring or king, the chum or dog salmon, the coho or silver salmon, the sockeye or red salmon and the pink salmon or humpback. And there are chars like the dolly varden, bulltrout and cutthroat. |

British Columbia is for the fly fisherman a true paradise. It still has an unspoiled wilderness where you can have an encounter with a black bear. Where you see the flights of a bald eagle and with some luck you can see an eagle take a salmon. Beaver, deer and moose are still plenty there, but you never know for how long. Mankind needs more and more space and likes to take from the richness of nature. Each year in September we go with a small group of serious fly fishermen to Northwest British Columbia. The Kispiox River is one of the best steelhead rivers in the world and the steelhead in this river are known as strong, big and heavy! |
